Federer wins 10th Basel title
Roger Federer won his 10th Swiss Indoors Basel title, defeating Alex De Minaur 6-2, 6-2 to secure what the Swiss legend described as "an unbelievable" success at the home-town tournament.

A clear loss against Rafa
"It just got worse and worse. And when I had a chance I simply played too weak. Today was nothing to write about, I'm afraid," Roger commented. "I know that I can do many more things in the game. I'm very excited by what's to come still."
“I had a few mini chances, which against Rafa I was down right away,” said Federer. “From then it was an uphill battle. When I did have chances I played poorly and he came up with some good stuff. Off night for me, unfortunately.”
It was no easy task playing against a very strong Nadal as the Spaniard never dropped his serve and converted four of five break-point chances, committing only 10 unforced errors. Roger counted a total of 31 unforced errors and shanked several shots.
Next on Roger's schedule is the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters which starts in a week and opens the clay-season for Roger.

Federer makes swift progress in late-night match
The late start was not uncharted territory for the 16-time Grand Slam champion. “It's happened a few times in my career where we waited around forever and I was able to play one of those clean, quick matches,” said Federer after defeating Rochus. “But, still, I prefer it not to happen every night.”
A two-time Sony Ericsson Open champion, Federer was pleased with his overall performance against the Belgian, whom he now owns an 8-0 record against.
“I really was able to hit freely tonight and play with great variation, and I think that really kept him guessing... Today I just didn't allow him to play because I was playing too offensive[ly],” Federer said.
“Everything worked the way I wanted it or hoped it to work, because I've played tough matches against him. I should have lost maybe two out of those eight now we've played. So I knew the danger of Olivier, and we know each other so well. He can find a way into the match and then make you doubt and find your weakness and so forth.”
Despite the delayed start, a number of fans hung around to support the World No. 3 and Federer certainly made note of it during the match.
“It's nice to see fans actually stuck around. It's a big thank you to them, because I really expected them to leave after the first set or just not be around at all anymore when we came out.”
Roger's opponent in Thursday's quarter-final will be France's Gilles Simon.

Roger Federer advances to fourth round
"I am happy with my game and things are going well," Roger commented. "I've played a lot more games than this time last year. I am confident going on court, preparing well and am happy with how things are going."
The Artentinian made Roger's life everything but easy. But our champ kept in the contest before making his move in the moments that counted. The first set brought a break on either side, with Roger eventually showing the greater quality in the tiebreak to edge ahead. Both players continued fighting tough with Roger finally scoring the first break at 4-4 and finally pulling out a stunning drop shot to wrap up the match after a tough 104 minutes.
Roger will now play Olivier Rochus (ATP 89) whom he has beaten every time in seven matches so far.
Federer and Rochus have been friends since they were 12, and the Swiss expects Rochus to leave everything out on the court. “He has an amazing touch and feel out on the court, great playing sense, when to play which shot,” Federer said.
“Even though he's a small guy out there, he knows how to use his weapons and his feel. He's a great tactician. I enjoy playing against him. It's a different kind of playing style. I'm looking forward to the match against him… it's going to be a nice match, I'm sure.”

Federer ties Sampras wins mark
The victory tied Federer with Pete Sampras on 762 career match wins. “It's a funny stat,” said the Swiss. “But it shows how long I have been around already, how much I've won all around the world and [on] all the different surfaces, and that I have played over 10, 12 solid seasons.”
The Swiss won 82 per cent of points behind his first serve and converted all three break point chances he created to seal his 11th victory in 13 meetings with Stepanek after just 62 minutes. He improved to a 37-10 record at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Miami, where he lifted the trophy in 2005 (d. Nadal) and 2006 (d. Ljubicic).
“I was able to played solid and keep him moving and serving at a high first-serve percentage, which was the goal as well today,” assessed Federer. “So all in all, I'm really pleased, because I always know the dangers of Radek.”
The 29-year-old Federer is ranked outside the Top 2 in the South African Airways 2011 ATP Rankings for just the 24th week out of the past 400, but has started the season in good form, compiling a 19-3 mark highlighted by winning his 67th tour-level title in Doha (d. Davydenko) and reaching the final in Dubai (l. to Djokovic).
Federer next will face No. 32-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco, who battled past Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-4 in two hours and 33 minutes. In their only previous meeting four years ago on clay in Hamburg, Federer prevailed in three sets.
"Not much I can take out of that match," said Federer. "But I've seen him play for multiple years and he is a good player, nice backhands, good intensity. He was able to come through a tough one [today], which is going to help his game, I'm sure. I'm ready for a tough challenge."

What’s wrong with Roger Federer now ?
His serve doesn't hurt like it used to. Whereas it was a huge weapon for him, this shot isn't decisive anymore and that's why he now has to play many rallies from the baseline. So Federer is giving up easy points on his service games and can't put on the usual pressure when he returns. He once used to get 10 to 15 aces per match and many more winners (not to mention all the short balls he was getting behind his first serve). Now he's struggling with his serve and it weakens his whole game.
A defensive backhand. If this shot was always his "weakness," it was still way better than many others on the Tour. Nowadays he's abusing the chop, which puts him too often on the defense. Furthermore, this shot has less velocity on it than in years past. It's not low or fast enough. His attacking backhand is often leading to many unforced errors when his rivals stick him on that side, as Djokovic did in the Indian Wells semis.
Slowing stamina. Roger remains — and his fitness trainer should be thanked — one of the quickest players on court. His footwork allows him to quickly turn around on his backhand and to take the ball as early as possible. Yet Federer is now suffering on the long runs during a match; some of his ups and downs can be explained by a general fitness that looks like it's slowing.
Distracted focus. It's one of his biggest issues of the moment. While he can still play some matches at a very high level, he also can play others in which he commits a lot of unforced errors. Federer's fitness may be suspect, but his focus is low enough where it appears to be tough for him to keep the same level of commitment during a whole match. It's enough to beat many players, but it hampers him when he battles the top players, who take advantage when Federer first cracks that door.

April Mota: Who cares what those critics have to say? There is NOTHING wrong with my baby Roger Federer♥ Even if he doesn't rank number one that doesn't matter. His records will always stand and put him up there and above some of the most greatest tennis players.

Luis Carlo Montero Saavedra: Roger is not playing badly. Its share of services is good but not as lethal as previous years. When nobody comes to rhythm. His only problem is consistency. You should only focus on maintaining the concentration at least 80% of the party and that would be enough to win tournaments. People should also think that Roger is 30 years. How many players of his age can defend a top 3 for several years?

Miami 2011 draw
Like the other top seeds, Roger is exempt from the first round. He will either face Fabio Fognini (ATP 53) or Radek Stepanek (ATP 68) in round two. He could later take on Argentinia's Juan Monaco (ATP 35), before a meeting with either Marcos Baghdatis (ATP 24) or Mikhail Youzhny (ATP 14) is possible. Then, Andy Roddick, the defending champion, could be up in the quarter finals.
Roger, winner in 2005 and 2006, is in the same half of the draw as top-seeded Rafael Nadal. The two champions could meet in the semifinals.
