Swiss Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka kept their nerve to beat all-French team Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 in 81 minutes on Monday for a place in the BNP Paribas Open quarter-finals.
Federer and Wawrinka, improved to a 9-3 career team record, by winning 67 per cent of service points and hitting four aces. They broke serve three times from seven opportunities. It is their first tour-level tournament since winning the gold medal for Switzerland at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
