ATP - ROGER EASES INTO QUARTERS

Roger won his fourth-round match today at The Championships in Wimbledon. It was the second time this month that he defeated Sweden's Robin Söderling, this (eleventh) time the result reads 6-4, 7-6(5), 7-6(5).

"This was a serving contest and so it's hard to judge my form just by this match but I have been happy with the way I played in the first week. It was a really dangerous match and thank God he served a double fault because it could have been a fourth set," Roger said.

Roger won the first set by breaking the Swede in the 10th game. After that, both players held serve until the end of the match, fighting closely in both tie-breaks. Söderling took a 3-2 lead in both of those, but Roger once again showed his class during the important points, eventually taking home both sets. He is now 69-1 in his last 70 matches on grass overall!

Roger will now meet either Fernando Verdasco (ESP) or Ivo Karlovic (CRO) in the quarter finals on Wednesday.

ATP - ROGER TO MEET SÖDERLING

Roger ovecame a spirited challenge from Philipp Kohlschreiber today to advance into the fourth round in Wimbledon.

The 6-3, 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-1 victory brings Roger a clash with Robin Söderling on Friday, the man he beat to win the French Open just a few weeks ago. Roger said: "I felt more pressure two years ago when I was trying to win a fifth Wimbledon title, but I'm relaxed and feeling good about being in the second week."

Kohlschreiber had lost all his three previous meetings with our champ and had never been able to win a set so far. But the German showed his determination and took advantage of the chance given in the third set, coming from a break back and eventually winning the tie-break. But Roger regained his rhythm right away, showing more brilliant tennis before he sealed his victory after 2 hours 31 minutes with a forehand winner.

On Monday afternoon, Roger will play Robin Söderling, against whom he has won his 10 previous matches.

ATP - ROGER CRUISES INTO ROUND THREE

Roger produced a sublime display to beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the second round at Wimbledon today. It took him just 89 minutes to secure the 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 victory.

"The opponents are only going to get tougher. I'm playing great at the moment, and I hope it is going to last," he said. Roger server brilliantly, losing only three points on his first serve and breaking his opponent regularly. He was in superb touch as he broke twice to take the first set 6-2 and, after saving two break points early in the second, a stunning winner saw him break as he won the set 6-2. He then eased through the third set 6-4.

After a break on Thursday, Roger will face Philipp Kohlschreiber in round three on Friday. He has won all three encounters with the German so far.

ATP - ROGER BREEZES THROUGH OPENER

Roger began his campaign to regain his Wimbledon crown with a solid victory in the opening match today, defeating Lu Yen-hsun of Chinese Taipei 7-5, 6-3, 6-2.

Our champ once again entered the court in a stylish outfit. This year, he went for a military-style jacket, which he stripped off to reveal a silk waistcoat worn over his more conventional tennis clothes.

Roger said: "It might look easy, but it is not. The first round is a lot different to say rounds two, three and four. You want to get off to a good start, get it out of the way and find your way into a tournament. Once you're in it, things seem a lot easier because your mind is in the tournament. But it is not easy, and Lu showed that today. It was a tough first set, and he remained tough throughout the game and that was good for me."

His first serve percentage was good, he kept unforced errors almost to a bare minimum when compared with his winners. All in all, Roger gave an allround performance today, which could in fact be taken as just a practice match for the next few days to come and which should get even better in the next set of matches to follow.

Roger will meet Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ATP 50) in the next round.

ATP - ROGER TO OPEN AGAINST LU

Roger will open his quest for a sixth Wimbledon title against Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu (ATP 64) next week. The two players have not me before.

Our champ would meet Guillermo Garcia-Lopez or Augustin Calleri in the second round and Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third before he is due to face Robin Söderling - which would be a remake of the final at Roland Garros. Fernando Verdasco is a possible opponent in the last eight and Roger could play Serbian fourth seed Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. Rafael Nadal pulled out of the tournament today.

London is Roger's next opportunity to mix up the statistics. He is aiming for a record 15th Grand Slam title, a record 7th consecutive Grand Slam final and a sixth Wimbledon victory (to equal Sampras' record).

ATP - GERRY WEBER OPEN, HALLE

Dear fans

I am sorry to announce that I have decided to withdraw from this week's Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany.

I sincerely apologize to the tournament organizers, my competitors, and my fans in Germany. I only hope they will understand that I still feel emotionally overwhelmed and exhausted by the incredible events of the past few days. It is hard for me to admit, but I simply cannot imagine giving my best effort in another tournament right away and I don't want to risk injury if I am not 100% prepared. I need to rest and recuperate.

I look forward to returning to Halle in 2010 to go for my sixth title. It is one of my favorite events on the ATP World Tour.

I also want to thank all of you for your unbelievable support these past two weeks. You are the best, and you helped me make a dream come true.

Roger

ATP - ROGER WINS FRENCH OPEN!

Roger beats Robin Söderling and wins the French Open! This title is Roger's 14th Grand Slam title! With this incredible win our champ levels Pete Sampras' record and is one of the six players who completed a sweep of the Majors!

Roger produced a near-faultless play and wrapped up a 6-1 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 victory in one hour and 55 minutes.

Roger backed that up with a majestic service game, which he held to love with one booming ace and the most delightful backhand.

After confidently winning the first set, Roger opened the second set with a double-fault but normal service was quickly resumed and an ace down the 'T' helped him take game one with little reason for concern.

At 4-3 up, Roger cranked up the pressure!

Söderling twice kept his composure when serving to stay in the set but Roger was in a class of his own during the tie-break serving four aces and gaining the first of three mini-breaks at 1-1.

The third set was decided in game three when Söderling double-faulted to gift Roger a break in game one .

ATP - ROGER MAKES IT TO THE FINAL!

Roger survived another scare at this year's French Open - but made it through in style and will play the final of Roland Garros on Sunday! He got past fifth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro 3-6, 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 and will meet Robin Söderling in his fourth consecutive final.

Roger was down 2-1 in sets and tied 1-1 in the fourth set when he realised his first break and then started playing on a different level, turning around the match. He went on to win seven games in series, all the way up to 2-0 in the final set. Del Potro came back to 3-3, but our champ scored another break right away and then had no more problems wining the match.

Roger has a 9-0 record against Söderling. He is just one more victory away from becoming the sixth player to complete a sweep of the Majors (the others are Fred Perry, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Roy Emerson and André Agassi). The title in Paris would also move Roger level with Pete Sampras on a record 14 grand-slam crowns.

ATP - ROGER BOOKS LAST FOUR SPOT

Roger is only two more wins away from completing a career Grand Slam! He eased past France's Gaël Monfils in straight sets 7-6(6), 6-2 and 6-4 this afternoon to advance to the semifinals of the French Open.

"I was very nervous as I had not felt too well during the past matches and had not hit the ball that well. But this time it went well right from the start," Roger said and added: "I hope to play two more matches here."

Our champ was in control of his serve throughout the entire match and capitalised on the errors of Monfils to secure the victory. He placed just 57 percent of his first serves in play but won 80 percent of those offerings and never had his serve broken. In comparison Monfils’ serve was broke by Roger on three of five opportunities.
Roger did have to save a set point in the first-set tiebreak before clinching it 8-6. He then marched on with a double break in the second and a last break in the ninth game in the third set which eventually brought him one more step closer to the only Grand Slam title missing in his collection.

Roger will play his fifth consecutive semi-final at the French Open against either Juan Martin del Potro or Tommy Robredo on Friday.

OFF COURT - PRIX ORANGE

Roger was awarded the Prix Orange as voted by the French public and press online for a record fifth consecutive time.

The Prix Orange goes to the ambassador of sportsmanship, 2009 marked the 29th edition of the award. “It is a pleasure to receive this award again, it is maybe because I spend so much time with the press,” said Roger.

ATP - A FANTASTIC COMEBACK

Roger once again fought back in impressive manner today, coming back from two sets down against Tommy Haas, finally winning the match 6-7(4), 5-7, 6-4, 6-0 and 6-2.

Roger was two sets and 3-4 down facing a break point when he recovered to hold serve and went on to win eight games in a row! He raced to level things up with a 6-0 demolition job in the fourth set and then broke twice in the final set. And with the chance to close out the contest, serving at 5-2 up with a double break, it took Roger just two match points to seal his place in the last-eight as a Haas return went wide at 40-30.

The victory was greeted by massive cheers on Philippe Chatrier Court as Roger is the hot favourite to win the title after Rafael Nadal was beaten yesterday. He will face either France's Gaël Monfils or American Andy Roddick on Wednesday.
